Battle Abbey

Battle Abbey is located in the village of Battle, Sussex. While the abbey is partially ruined, a significant amount of the structure remains, including the dorter (dormitory), reredorter (communal privy), common room and fortified gatehouse.

The walk in front of the wall provides a good view of the battlefield. The crypt is all that remains of the original chapel built by William of Normandy. This was supposedly built near the spot of where Harold fell in battle.
